Ludo’s Habronema Wound

After dealing with a chronic habronema wound (summer soar) for two years, Renae Coats of RCR Farms contacted Dr. Scott Meyer of Desert Mountain Equine to look at the wound.  Ludo, a 14-year-old warm-blood gelding and Grand Prix champion had a summer soar on his lower left pastern.  Dr. Meyer originally used an EquusCell StemWrap 5×5 on May 13th, 2018.  He cleaned and then heavily debrided the wound of the habronema. The StewWrap was then placed on the wound with a non-stick telfa over it. The wound is then wrapped and the bandage changed every 4 to 5 days.  On May 18th, a supplemental application of StemWrap D was implanted around the borders of the wound to spur epithelization.
