La Fiesta de los Patios da Cordoba, the Patios Festival, is a uniquely colorful tradition in Cordoba that dates back to 1918. So much of the city’s beauty is cultivated in the private courtyards of local people, who lovingly fill their outdoor spaces with layers of geraniums and other potted flowers.

Many of these picturesque private gardens are hidden from public view, but during the week of the week of the Patios Festival, people open their private courtyards and walled gardens to the public, in a hidden gardens open house of sorts.

UNESCO recognizes the cultural significance of this special event, which is unique to Cordoba and easy to enjoy on a well-timed Cordoba Untour.

Here is a video that summarizes the history and significance of the festival.

The event is free, though it is customary to drop small donations as you visit. Plan your Cordoba Untour for early May so you can join the locals in discovering all of this hidden beauty.
