THE RISE OF ANTI-TIME MANAGEMENT (A HISTORY OF TIME MANAGEMENT)

#97 Time management was never designed to give you freedom. Time management was designed to control you...not for you to control your time. Stop managing time. Start prioritizing attention. Read while you listen! There are many sources and quotes on this podcast. Richie Norton included a bonus chapter for you to review additional sources cited and/or for context for your research and bibliographic enjoyment. You can read along and follow the sources by grabbing the bonus chapter to Richie's new book Anti-Time Management at www.richienorton.com/time.

This podcast is a keystone, flagship, deep dive into the history of Frederick Winslow Taylor, the Founder of Scientific Management, Time Management, Time and Motion Study and more. The historical nature of this content is intentionally shared through the lens of 21st century social and technological shifts. This powerful podcast demonstrates how time management is a painful path to strive for meaningful work because it was not a tool designed for that (and what to do about it).

PATTERN RECOGNITION AND DISCERNMENT: HOW TO MAKE YOUR BEST YEAR WITH A CREATIVE ECOSYSTEM

PATTERN RECOGNITION AND DISCERNMENT: HOW TO MAKE YOUR BEST YEAR WITH A CREATIVE ECOSYSTEM

#93 Discernement Can Break Constraints and Free Up Creativity for Productivity. Richie shares insights from his contribution to the "Freedom of Constraints" book compilation from Marshall Goldsmith's 100 Coaches. Margaret Heffernan said, "A great deal of creativity is about pattern recognition, and what you need to discern patterns is tons of data. Your mind collects that data by taking note of random details and anomalies easily seen every day: quirks and changes that, eventually, add up to insights." Discernment is the key competency of this decade. Discover the wisdom of discernment leadership and discernment entrepreneurship in your own life and business. Unwrap your mind around creativity, data access, trust and influencing environments and ecosystem partnerships for growth. This podcast is full of powerful stories and life lessons paired with strategy and tactics as an approach to achieve purpose through greater meaning, contribution and service in a world that becomes increasingly digital and human simultaneously.

Mind-Expanding Podcast

This episode brought to mind Paulo Freire’s book Pedagogy of the Oppressed, wherein the concept of education as a “banking model”, a versus a critical pedagogy where students are taught to think. The banking model is where it is believed that educators must put knowledge into students like they are containers. It seems scientific management may have seeped into education at some point.
