Daniel Returns to the Track

Thirty days into beginning training on the track in Florida, 2-year-old thoroughbred racehorse, Sky Hi Daniel, started experiencing lameness in the left shoulder.  Upon taking radiographs and veterinarian evaluation, he was diagnosed with an osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) lesion in his left front shoulder.  He was returned to Kentucky with a poor prognosis for a future in racing.  After evaluating the OCD, the attending veterinarian and Daniel’s owners chose to use AniCell’s EquusCell product line on the OCD instead of the typical surgery required to repair the lesion.

On March 10th, 2018, the above radiograph reveals the subchondral bone irregularity along with associated sclerosis.  AniCell AniMotion was implanted intralesionally.

On April 24th, 2018, the above radiograph was taken as the 45-day recheck.  It demonstrates the improvement in subchondral bone density and a decrease in sclerosis.  A mild defect in the articular surface is still grossly apparent, although the roughened articular margins are improved. The attending veterinarian chose to supplement the original treatment with AniCell Biotech’s AniMatrX-D to give a boost to the regenerative process. Daniel was sound at the jog and continued on AniCell’s Accelerated Rehabilitation Program.

Finally, on June 19th, 2018, Daniel was evaluated with 90-day recheck radiographs.  This radiograph displays a reduction in subchondral bone sclerosis with continued improvement in the articular surface.

Daniel’s OCD was allowed to regenerate through the wound management provided by the amnion bioscaffold in AniCell’s products.  The colt has been cleared to return to light work in using AniCell Biotech’s Accelerated Rehab Protocol.  He is slated to return to the track at Keeneland October 1, 2018.
