WE ARE
NATURE.

Advocating for and realigning our relationship with nature is vital for long-term and sustainable solutions to climate change.

NATURE CONNECTION.

Protecting and restoring our natural world is only one aspect of the work we do. We seek to inspire a global movement towards a (re)connection with nature, shifting from consumer to restorer mindset.

Nature connectedness is a measurable psychological construct grounded in science that captures the relationship between people and the rest of the natural world. Not only do those with a high level of nature connectedness enjoy better mental (and physical) health, but studies have shown that they are more likely to act in environmentally friendly ways. Crucial for conservation and climate change efforts globally. But where do we start, and how do we improve our connection with our natural environment?

You can get started with some easy ways to integrate nature connection into your everyday life below.

Notice nature wherever you are. Nature is everywhere. In our modern tech-heavy world and concrete urban landscapes, it is easy to feel disconnected from it. But appreciating that nature is not a destination but all around us is the first step. It doesn’t matter if you have access to a local woodland or live in a city; noticing and spending time in nature is proven to positively impact your wellbeing and mood and decrease your stress levels.

NOTICE

NATURE ADVOCACY.

Alongside the importance of a human rights-based approach to conservation and restoration, TreeSisters also speak up on behalf of the voiceless by advocating for nature. This involves challenging dominant power structures, highlighting and educating on alternative ways of living with the natural world and encouraging others to adopt more sustainable and biocentric practices.

We also support nature’s inherent rights and ‘The Rights of Nature’. This is the recognition that trees, wildlife, oceans, rivers, mountains etc., have rights just as we do, and we must balance these to ensure the best outcome for the planet as a whole.

Nature advocacy can come in many forms, and you don’t need to have passed the bar to start advocating for nature today.

For many Indigenous cultures, nature advocacy and considering all life as sacred and connected is an intrinsic part of life. Deep ancestral knowledge of ecosystems and how to successfully live in harmony with the lands is often passed down through generations, with decisions made in a way that encompasses the whole environment. LEARNING FROM OTHERS.

TreeSisters has a long history of alliances and partnerships with Indigenous and Original people - many of whom have successfully lived in harmony with their lands for millennia.
In a series of interviews, we invited guests to share their viewpoints, challenges and nature-led ancestral knowledge to highlight alternative ways of living with our world, share learnings, and provide space to support and get involved.
