What a challenging winter we have had in animal health.  From snow in deserts of Arizona to the floods in the Midwest, to the track closure at Santa Anita, we have seen all facets of this winter up close and personal.

Testing Transparency with the Certificate of Analysis

In the last two updates, we have been running a series on Biologic Safety. We covered the rigorous donor testing that is performed on the mares prior to getting to our facility with the same protocols used on blood plasma mares (https://anicellbiotech.com/anicell-summer-2018-update/). Last quarter we discussed both lab work-in-progress and finished product testing prior to release https://anicellbiotech.com/anicell-fall-2018-update/.

This quarter we will take a look at our Certificate of Analysis that compiles both our donor and product lot test results. This certificate summarizes all our results in one place giving our customers the confidence that every lot has passed both the industries and AniCell’s stringent assay requirements for biological products.

We believe that this transparency will ease concerns some may have about using allogeneic products and continue to set the bar for safety and quality in the industry. Please take a look at our example at www.anicellbiotech.com/cert-of-analysis/.

Our final installment in this series will discuss product efficacy.

We would have never…

Many have asked over the years if we harvest our amnion material from Cesarean sections like they do when collecting amnion for human products. While C-Sections are commonplace in humans, they are typically taboo, except in emergency cases, in the horse world.

Due to the significant possibility for complications, AniCell has gone to great lengths to develop an aseptic collection process that is in conjunction with the natural parturition process. We made the decision early on that if C-section in horses was the only way we could get the amnion, we would not start the company.

AniCell has patented our all-natural, non-invasive, collection process in order to provide an innate, non-invasive experience for mare and foal.

That having been said, we do collect canine amnion by C-Section in hard to birth dogs such as English Bulldogs and Boxers. In those cases, the amnion is routinely collected alongside the veterinary surgeon birthing those puppies.

Cases that make you go, HUMM!

Veterinarians continue to send us new ways of using the product. We posted several new cases this quarter to give a better understanding of how the products are being used. Many of these are not your “standard” cases:

Amnion vs Bisphosphonates

Much has been written lately on the use of bisphosphonates for a variety of indications in horses; including some of the issues at Santa Anita recently.

Take a look at our blog post on the difference between amnion and bisphosphonates.

Stallion Reproductive Health Preliminary Results from Phase Two Field Trial

Our initial results from our Phase II Field Trial are showing efficacy in cases of low sperm motility and reproductive health in Stallions. While we have not seen results in Stallions who were initially sterile, in cases where there is breeding fatigue or simply low motility numbers, we are seeing a substantial increase in motility and semen count.

In one case, this product has led to a four-fold increase in positive coverage of mares when used as a reproductive aid to boost semen count and sperm motility.  Please stay tuned for all our results!

We are still looking for veterinarians who are treating stallions that are showing low semen count or sperm motility. If you know of any of these cases, please click here.
