You might have some class privilege going on here.
‘Class privilege’ and ‘access to wealth’ aren’t the same thing, but acknowledging some of these class privilege clues is super helpful in figuring out the details of your class background and current or future access to wealth.
At Resource Generation, our members are people 18-35 years old from any racial background, who through personal or family wealth, are among the wealthiest 10% in the U.S.
Those of us with some class privilege going on tend to downplay it and even hide our family’s wealth in progressive spaces, not knowing or feeling comfortable squaring our politics with our family’s class background.
Our silence or misrepresentations actually empowers racial capitalism which thrives off the myth that anyone can escape poverty if they ‘just work hard enough.’
But what if telling the truth about wealth and our class backgrounds actually helped expose how deeply unjust and racist the U.S. economic system is? What if it made our movements for economic and racial justice stronger? (Spoiler alert: it does)
